Job Title: Project Coordinator Support
Location: Liwale, Lindi
Reports to: Project Coordinator (PC)

Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) is an international, independent medical humanitarian organisation that delivers emergency aid to people affected by armed conflict, epidemics, natural disasters, and exclusion from healthcare. MSF offers assistance based on need, irrespective of race, religion, gender, or political affiliation, and is guided by the principles of neutrality and impartiality. These principles apply to all MSF staff.

Main Purpose
To provide support to the Project Coordinator in security management and coordination tasks, ensuring smooth relations with local and national authorities, and contributing to context analysis and follow-up in line with MSF protocols, standards, and procedures.

Key Accountabilities
  • Represent MSF externally with the Project Coordinator or alone (when delegated), safeguarding and promoting MSF’s image.
  • Monitor, analyze, and report on key issues (security, risks, etc.), providing contextual information to the Project Coordinator. Maintain the security database and provide biweekly context analyses.
  • Assist in exploratory missions, assessments, and development of security plans.
  • Support internal and external communication sessions/events with staff, authorities, and community leaders to improve awareness and understanding of MSF’s principles. Write meeting minutes and update the meeting logbook.
  • Maintain relations and networking with local actors (NGOs, UN agencies, local authorities, media) and update field contacts to ensure accurate and available information.
  • Translate and review documents; act as interpreter when needed. Assist in drafting correspondences with authorities and counterparts.
  • Prepare and conduct context, cultural, and security briefings for new staff, and ensure regular security briefings for drivers, guards, and assessment teams.
  • Be available outside regular hours to assist the Project Coordinator with urgent context, security, or operational issues, unless otherwise agreed.
  • Conduct field visits to peripheral areas to meet village leaders and gather contextual information.
  • Organize and follow up on meetings with authorities regarding staffing, project activities, visitor support, and other matters.
  • Participate in hospital weekly meetings, district monthly meetings, and regional quarterly meetings in Lindi, especially when the Project Coordinator is unavailable.
  • Provide full support to the Project Coordinator in understanding local contexts of Kimambi, Lilombe, and Kibutuka, to help improve medical services and project operations.
  • Perform additional responsibilities or tasks as assigned by the Project Coordinator.
Minimum Educational Qualification
  • University diploma, preferably in Social Sciences (Political Science, International Public Law, Anthropology, Economics, etc.)
Experience
  • Essential: Experience in complex political, security, or humanitarian environments
  • Essential: Experience in data collection, reporting, and analysis
  • Desirable: Two years of prior experience in similar jobs with MSF (preferred) or other NGOs
  • Desirable: Management experience
Knowledge
  • Essential computer literacy (Word, Excel, Internet/social media)
  • Strong understanding of MSF principles and values
  • Knowledge and interest in humanitarian issues
  • Strong contextual analysis skills and in-depth knowledge of local culture and customs
Languages
  • High command (oral and written) of mission and local language is essential
